Compass Calibration

Compas Calibration:

A magnetic compass is always sensitive to interference. This can be caused by, among other things, a magnetic screwdriver, glasses case, case of your Airpods, magnet in your jacket, mobile phone and other electronic equipment, but you will also experience it in ports, bridges, locks, tunnels, high-voltage cables and ground cables. To always be assured of a good and reliable course, it is advisable to use the GPS ground course!

The alignment via the here button is best done in the harbour, the calibration plot is best carried out on open water without any sources of interference.

First make sure the ControlHead is aligned. It is best to do this when the ship is flat and still in the harbour. In the web interface, go to the cogwheel, choose Compass calibration and then press the here button.

If the ControlHead points straight forward, the Magnetic Heading Offset is 0 degrees. If you have mounted the ControlHead on a side, for example, the Magnetic Heading Offset is -90 degrees for starboard and 90 degrees for a port side mounting.

A good compass calibration is best performed on open water without any sources of interference. Sail calmly on starboard and port for a few laps and then check the box next to Compass Lock Calibration.

It may happen that your deviation deviates significantly under slope. If you experience this under difficult conditions, temporarily unlock the Calibration in those conditions, the compass will then learn!

Make sure that no sources of interference are present during calibration and do not forget to Lock!

Accelerometer calibration is not necessary! This is always carried out by us before delivery!

To do this, the ControlHead must be removed and it must be placed down for a few seconds on each of its 6 sides.
